| GENERAL The MARCO Model 540 Series of Portable Conveyors incorporate an
original concept in design called "MARCO ECS", or "Exact Component
Selection". This concept requires that each detailed component, regardless of size,
be designed and/or selected for its specific function on one particular size machine
(width and length). This "Exact Component Selection" eliminates the common
questionable practice of "one tire size (for example) for an entire range of machine
sizes". Such practice creates, by necessity, "under-design or
over-design,", which is either unsatisfactory or too expensive. The Model 540
Series of Portables, therefore, are specifically designed by unit size of width and
length, to provide maximum efficiency at minimum cost. See
Table A.
CONVEYOR FRAME
The MARCO Model 540 Heavy Duty Portable Conveyor
incorporates the use of MARCO Series 151 and Series 361 Tubular Trusses, combining the
correct amount of each, depending on the width and length of a specific unit. MARCO
Series 151 and Series 361 Trusses are 17" and 39" in depth, respectively. Side
Frames are "jig-welded" and are assembled into a box truss by bolt connected
wind bracing. For additional and complete details of Series 151 and/or Series 361 Tubular
Frames, see Spec Sheets:
Model 151

angles and/or pockets for material "build-up". Dual hydraulic cylinders
are provided in the forward support. Rods are fully protected within the support
structure. Machine may be elevated from minimum angle (See
Table A) to maximum angle of 22o (standard power is provided for 18o inclination but, as an option, may be
increased to satisfy a requirement for higher angle of operation). Rams are designed for
restricted "down-flow" (descent) by use of restrictor valves located within
cylinder cap for complete protection.
TOWING HITCH
Heavy duty eye bolt is provided as standard. A manual
"lifting jack" (mechanical) is incorporated into tail section of conveyor to
raise eye bolt to travel height. A king pin for "fifth wheel" towing is
available as an option.
WHEEL AND TIRE GROUP
Spindle, hub, wheel and tire sizes have been carefully
selected to satisfy maximum speeds of 5 MPH for off-road travel, 20 MPH for highway
travel, and 40 MPH for interstate highway travel.
PULLEYS
Heavy duty, all steel welded type, individually turned and
crowned to insure true concentricity with the bore. The entire face of the pulley is
machined. Pulleys are equipped with Taper-Lock or QD hubs and bushings
DRIVE PULLEY LAGGING
All Drive Pulleys are lagged with 3 ply, Ruff Top Rubber Lagging, installed in multiple
widths to ensure conformity to crowned face. Slide Lagging or Vulcanized Lagging is
optional.
IDLERS
Belt Widths 18" through 36" - MARCO Series M15-41/2" dia. rolls. with
pre-lubricated ball bearings, requiring no further lubrication.Troughing Idlers are spaced
on 4'-0" centers with two extra at the loading point. Return Idlers are spaced on
10'-0" centers.
Belt Widths 42" through 48"-CEMA C-5 5" dia., pre-lubricated roller bearing
idlers are furnished as standard. Troughing Idlers are spaced on 3'-0" centers on
42" widths. and 3'-O" centers on 48" widths. Return Idlers are spaced on
10'-0" centers
BELT TAKE-UP
Screw type, acid cleaned and plated. providing ample adjustment.
RETURN BELT WIPER (OPTIONAL)
"Plow type", equipped with gum rubber flashing, and mounted in front of
tail pulley to prevent entrance of material between return belt and pulley. The wiper is
integral with the screw take-up, providing fixed relationship between wiper and pulley,
regardless of take-up setting.
HEAD END BELT WIPER
Equipped with Double Rubber Squeegee and adjustable tension springs providing constant
pressure on belt surface. Mounts under head pulley for greatest efficiency.
ASSEMBLY BOLTS
All the field assembly bolts are acid cleaned and plated.
WALKWAY
Not available on this Model but available on Model 541 Portable.
LOADING HOPPER
The loading hopper is 5 ft. long, 8" in depth. and is designed to assist in
appropriately centering material on the belt. It is equipped with adjustable gum rubber
flashing to prevent leakage. Hopper length can be extended to any dimension, resulting in
continuous side skirts.

MOTOR
SUPPORT (for Electric Motor)
Integral with shaft mounted reducer.
CONVEYOR DRIVE (for Electric Motor)- AGMA CLASS IDrive includes Shaft Mounted Helical Gear Speed Reducer (gears are enclosed and
running in oil). driver and driven sheaves and vee belts. All Drive components are
selected to adequately transmit horsepower. Drive is not removed for transporting.
AGMA Class II Duty Drive is also available-consult factory.
BACKSTOP
A Backstop is provided. Mounts in the reducer and runs in oil.
ELECTRIC MOTOR
1800 RPM,TEFC, Nema Design "C,' Hi-Torque, 3 phase, 60 cycle, 230-460 volt. Motor is
not removed for transporting.
OSHA-MSHA GUARDS
Protective Guards, constructed of expanded metal are included as standard on all Model 540
Portable Conveyors. Guards furnished are Head Pulley Guard, Tail Pulley Cage and Vee Belt
Drive Guard.
GENERAL OPTIONAL SPECIFICATIONS
Any, or all, of the following "General Optional Specifications" are available on
Model 540 Portable Conveyors.
PIN-ABLE UNDERSTRUCTURE
A structural Pin-able Understructure is standard. The
Pin-able Understructure is constructed of rectangular structural tubing to reduce material
"build-up"' and has welded cross braces. Forward and rear supports are pin
connected to bottom chord of conveyor truss. Degree of incline adjustment is accomplished
by a "telescoping" forward support, locked into position by pins through the
"telescope". Various angles of incline are available, up to a maximum of
22o
(standard power is provided for 18o inclination but, as an option, may be increased to satisfy a
requirement for higher angle of operation).
RETRACTABLE AXLE (OPTIONAL)
A retractable axle is available on all machines having an axle overall-width (OAW) of 10'
or 12' dimension (See Table 1). This retractability reduces OAW by 2'0" and is
accomplished by "telescoping" and re-pinning into travel or operating position.
Not available on machines having an 8'-0" OAW.
SWIVEL WHEEL ASSEMBLY (OPTIONAL)
Provides for partial rotation of both wheel assemblies into
a radial position for stockpiling of materials and/or bin charging. The swivel wheel
assembly requires additional overall-width (OAW) of 2'-0" for trailing. Included with
this swivel wheel assembly is a tail pivot assembly, also required to accomplish radial
movement. This swivel wheel assembly is not available if machine is equipped with dual
tires.
WIDE PROFILE AND DUAL TIRES (OPTIONAL)
Wide Profile Tires are available, as an option, in place of standard single pneumatics.
Wide Profiles provide larger bearing areas to improve operational efficiency on loose
materials. Dual tires are also available.
POWER PROPELLING MECHANISM
(for radial travel - OPTIONAL)
Drive includes TEFC Motor, and Enclosed Gear Reducer with "soft- start"
coupling. Roller chain and sprocket drive and forward-reverse "dead-man" push
button is provided. Starter is not included.
POWER RAISING OPTIONAL
Power Raising is available as replacement for pin-able understucture.
ENCLOSED TAIL SECTION
The standard open truss is "plated" to totally enclose the tail section. This
enclosure prevents entrance of material into the section, or around the tail pulley.
KING PIN HITCH (OPTIONAL)
A King Pin arrangement is available, as an option, and replaces the standard eye bolt. The
King Pin Hitch is designed to work in conjunction with a "fifth wheel" on towing
tractor.
